If there is one thing James Hale loves more than American Saddlebred show horses, it's his dogs. All 16 of them.
You see, James' parents wouldn't let him bring his little dog, Molly, into the house when he was a kid. He built her a nice dog house, put lots of warm hay inside and a curtain over the door to knock the wind off during the cold winter nights, but he still worried about her. He swore that when he grew up that he'd have lots of dogs and let them all in the house and even let them sleep with him. And so he did. To date we are the proud parents of 16 canine companions and one brave barn cat.
James Hale Stables was built in 1996 and sits on 13 acres in the Chelsea/Columbiana area, just 5 miles off Hwy 280. We've had as many as 40 show horses in training, but decided in mid-2016 to scale back the horse training operation and convert 1/2 of the main barn into a dog boarding facility. We opened our doors just in time for the 2016 Holiday season.
James' wife, Jackie, is also an animal lover and rescue advocate. She handles the office management, marketing and social media. His daughter, Ashton, is a Veterinary Technician, and we are fortunate to have her manage the kennel operations at The Club. Because the we live on the farm, our guest benefit from 24-hour surveillance and overnight care as required.
Located less than 10 miles from the shelter, CCC partners with SHS for special events and we foster dogs who are in need of TLC or medical attention before they can find their fur-ever home.
Another Shelby County based organization, Two By Two is the largest no-kill rescue group in Alabama. We are pleased to foster dogs for them whenever they have a special need, or a regular foster family is going on vacation.
Because we have a special place in our hearts for Jack Russells, we chose Russell Rescue of TN as our charity for the Southern Saddlebred Fall Finale horse show that we put on in Murfreesboro, TN every October. They have a silent auction during the show and we are thrilled to be their largest fundraiser of the year. We are the proud parents of 3 wonderful dogs that we've adopted from them!
